June 22, 2003 - The Lucas Fire Department celebrated 30-year birthday party
open house. We took this occasion to honor our first chief Frank Hamlin by
naming the new station "The Frank Hamlin Fire Station". A plaque was dedicated
to his honor and exhibited for all those in attendance to view. We all feel a
debt of gratitude to Chief Hamlin for his leadership during the department's
earlier years. This was a small honor to pay him for that service.
Speakers at the event were,
-
The Honorable Sam Johnson United States Congressman 3rd district of Texas
-
The Honorable Jodie Laubenberg Representative Texas State Legislator 89th
district of Texas County
-
Judge Ron Harris
-
Commissioner Joe Jaynes Collin County
Over a couple hundred citizens and neighboring departments dropped in to help
us celebrate and make the day special. There were fun things for the younger
crowd and the moms/dads were able to enjoy a hamburger or hot dog while
visiting with friends. Some of the older generation had a good time looking
through some of the pictures back all the way to the 1973.
Fire equipment was on display with everything from Thermal Imaging Camera
technology to our first engine "Streaker". A print of Engine 3 on order with
General Fire Safety in Minnesota was the focus of a lot of discussion with the
old timers; too many new fangled gadgets for their liking.
A big thank you to all for the great day from Lucas Fire Rescue!!
